Here are 10 facts you may not know about our amazing August box author.Peace is a respected and accomplished scholar.

She received a bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of Ghana. She then completed her postgraduate studies in the United States, where she obtained a Ph.D. in public and international affairs from the University of Pittsburgh.

She is a Research Fellow at LECIAD, University of Ghana, and a 2015 – 2017  Oxford-Princeton Global Leaders Fellow.

Peace started with academic non-fiction before exploring fiction. In 2020, she published the scholarly work ‘Global Norms and Location Action: The Campaigns to End Violence Against Women in Africa’. The book deals with post-conflict states’ responses to violence against women.

Peace is on the editorial board of the journal ‘Politics & Gender’ and co-edits the journal ‘African Affairs’.

Her work has won several awards, including the 2019 Best Article Award of the European Journal of Politics and Gender.

Medie describes her fiction as being heavily influenced by her academic research into gender, violence, and politics.

Not only has Peace written academic non-fiction and an acclaimed novel, she’s also written some short stories which have been featured in publications including ‘Transition’, ‘Slice’, ‘Four Way Review’ and ‘SIN/GIN (Sex/Gender in the Narrative)’.

Medie’s research has been supported by grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, and the Social Science Research Council.

When asked in an interview with the ‘Mosioa Tunya Review’ what her favourite book was she said, “My favorite book is ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’. It was the first book that got me thinking about writing as a craft, as opposed to only something that I did for myself because I wanted more books to read. I enjoy works by so many writers, including Tsitsi Dangaremgba, Isabel Allende, and Zadie Smith.”
